Deviant Noise offers independent and label-signed artists professional mixing and mastering services in a wide variety of genres.

The most important thing – the thing we value most – is giving an artist a polished master recording that offers a true representation of the emotion a song is trying to convey.

It’s much more than simple balance or clarity – it’s about nurturing an entire “ecosystem” that works together to take a listener into the world that the artist intended.

It’s not just about gear. It’s not just about messing around with frequencies and volume.

It’s about being able to translate an emotion into a sonic experience. And that’s what we strive to do with every project we work on.

From Rough Recording to Release Ready Song

A great mix is essential to a song’s ability to make someone really feel something. Here’s how we can make that happen.

Overall Groove and Feel

The process of finishing a release-ready record really starts with ensuring the recorded performance has an ideal “pocket” – making sure that every instrument feels tight (or loose, if that’s the feeling of the song) ensuring a strong groove throughout the song.

Performance Enhancement

Once the performances sit well together in terms of groove/feel, the focus shifts to individual elements that may need attention. From tuning and pitch correction to sound layering and replacement, if the overall vision of the song calls for it, tone gets finessed to ensure maximum impact.

Balance

A good balance of sonic energy is essential in really allowing a song’s emotion to shine through. We do this by determining the most important elements of a song at any given point and making sure they are clearly audible and intentionally placed throughout the sound field.

Clarity and Dynamics

A flat mix is a boring mix. A great mix breathes along with the emotional arc of the song. Holding and directing a listeners attention as they journey through the song lets them experience all the important details of your art (where the real magic lies.)

Time and Space

We live in 3 dimensions of space, and 1 dimension called time. If you want the experience of a song to feel authentic it needs to exist with a sense of time and space. We want to craft a space – whether grounded or ethereal – that feels absolutely right for the song.

Translation

Everyone listens to music differently – on speakers, phones/laptops, car stereos, headphones. A great mix will “translate” optimally on each, ensuring the feel/vibe is preserved and that it can compete with other releases in terms of loudness and clarity.
